Group Therapy
Benefits of Group Therapy
For some people the idea of participating in group therapy can be intimidating. After all, the expectation is that we open up about ourselves with a bunch of strangers and risk judgment or worst of all embarrassment! Most often though, people are surprised at how much they gain from the experience of group therapy.
The benefits of the group therapy experience can vary according to individuals, but the most common benefits include:
- Realizing that you are not alone in your struggles
- Learning how to give and receive support.
- Gaining helpful social and interpersonal skills.
- Understanding your needs and how to respond to the needs of others.
- Gaining a support system and accountability for change.
- Gaining a sounding board for difficult choices.
